How much is your blog worth?

September 7th, 2006 by Jake

According to this tool which I found on a friend’s blog, my very own blog, Geek and a Half, is worth exactly (at time of posting) $10,726.26. It’s a fun little tool, see how much your blog is worth!

QuickURLs for SpikeX.net

August 9th, 2006 by Jake

I coded a quickurl system last night. It’s not much, but I figured it would be useful since my domain is fairly short. Try it out! Add your URL here, and get the low numbers while you still can!

Blog Updates

July 28th, 2006 by Jake

So I upgraded WordPress, added tags / a tag cloud, and got a new theme. You can see my tag cloud (which needs a bit of work) to the left, and, well, if you’re reading this, you’re most likely looking at my new theme. Drop a comment and tell me what you think!

I’ve finally upgraded the blog software to WordPress 2.0.2. You may not notice anything, but the admin panel was totally redone, and I like it a lot more. Enjoy!

The Digg Effect

March 19th, 2006 by Jake

I guess fame has its price, as most things do in this world. My Windows Vista story managed to land itself on the front page of Digg.com. If you haven’t checked it out yet, it’s a really sleek technology news site that’s immensely community-driven. Unfortunately Slashdot and Digg work in horrendous ways…check out my Awstats reading from the past couple of hours:

Awstats Statistics for the Digg Effect

Amazing how powerful the Internet can be sometimes. Still, I did manage to get on the homepage of Digg, which is saying something. One story is enough for me for now, I’ll wait ’till things cool off before attempting this again.

Update: My Digg story is now on the third page, so I hope traffic will dwindle. I thought I’d provide an update, though. My story ended up getting over 700 Diggs consuming 50 Gigabytes of bandwith. That’s just this month, too, on average, people only use 2-3 GB/mo. Too much excitement for me, next time I submit a story, I won’t try as hard to get it to the front page.
