Microsoft to buy one more part of cyberspace

September 15th, 2005 by Jake

So I sign onto IRC today, and what do I see as the topic? “ * Topic is 'MSN & AOL to merge? - http://www.bigblueball.com/forums/t32237-aol-msn-merger-rumors.html'“So I go to read the article, and it looks as if Microsoft is planning to buy yet another huge part of the Internet, trying to take over.

This is like a war, I swear, Google Versus eBay Versus Microsoft. Who will win? I put my money on Google, they grew so fast it was unbelieveable. But, really, with eBay Buying Skype and Time Warner selling AOL over to Microsoft, what’s to come in the future? Will small providers like Skype ever survive without a bigger company buying them out? Will this turn into a monopoly with just one company running everything, e-mail, chat, ISP, web hosting? There are advantages and disadvantages, no doubt, but do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages is the question. Would you sacrafice price for an all-in-one comapny? How about selection versus simplicity? I don’t know about you, but I certainly don’t like the looks of this.

Of course I could be exaggerating some of this, but then again am I? Could this be reality in as few as five or ten years’ time?

The REAL First Post

September 14th, 2005 by Jake

Ahh, yes, that post AFTER the first post, the true, memorable, legit First Post that actually means something.

So, what should I talk about first, hmm… I was debating on just explaining why I made a blog, what you’ll see on it, etc. Hm, okay, yeah, let’s start off that way.

Okay, I made this blog because Kevin kept nagging me about doing the whole RSS-Podcasting-Wiki-Blog thing, so I suppose this is a start, right? I had blogs before, but hell if I know where they are anymore. Also, you’ll kind of see me juggling back and forth between stuff that happens with BBB and my real life. To the people reading who know me and live by me: BBB is a unique online community. They have very friendly people who share the same interests as I do, and we chat all the time about computers, life, etc. I might blog about something that happened on the site or in IRC, so if you find yourself scratching yor head, just ignore it, chances are it’s for the BBBers reading this. To the people of BBB: I have a life outside IRC and BBB, and I hope you do, too. So I might go on about school one particular day, or something that happened with one of my firends. This is just a little warning to both sides that I’ll be blogging about both, so don’t say to me “WTF is This?” or “Dude, that’s so stupid, why do you hang out with them” Dont’ ask, it’s a very, verrry long story, either way.

Phew, lots of typing. Anyway, I hope you get the whole idea that this is kind of a two-face thing, and not to get confused.

Ahh, what about my day today, then, hm. Went to TCD (but I had to get up early which SUCKED), read Chapter 3 which was mostly about cables and wireless, you know, UTP, ScTP, STP, 10baseT, 10base2/5, that sort of thing. We got back at 11:15 normal time, but 3rd period had just started, so I just went to the library and said to myself, “I’m gonna blog.” So, here I am. Maybe I’ll talk to Kevin next period, since, Oh, he got that “really cool A/V job”. Whatever.

Okay, I gess I really have no more to talk about… -thinks- …OH, okay, if you read this, please please PLEASE post comments, however big or small. A blog is nothing without it’s readers and commenters, and I have no more incentive to keep posting if you guys don’t comment! It lets me know you’re reading my posts, and that’s cool to know. So, PLEASE, Comment always! (That means you, now, comment, ready? GO.)

First Post

September 13th, 2005 by Jake

Heh, here’s that famous “first post” in my blog everyone has to make but nobody ever thinks twice about because they’re so ‘wow’ed by the Admin panel. Oh well, at least I put some thought into this post, let’s hope the trend continues!
